An Indian Cultural Extravaganza .. Tarang !… held to Raise Funds for the Lincoln Drill Hall
Saturday the 18th May 2019: The Lincs Indian Society (LIS) came together in support of the Lincoln Drill Hall by joining forces with the iconic arts centre to raise funds for its ‘Be A Brick’ Fundraising Campaign. Tarang!… meaning a ‘wave of joy’, an Indian Cultural Event was curated by the community, offering an opportunity for all audiences to get involved.
The event sold out with over 350 seats and offered an opening foyer of an array of stalls selling Indian clothes & accessories, books & toys, Indian food & cakes, Henna (hand painting) etc. This was followed by a treat of a variety entertainment talent show, depicting various forms of Indian performing arts – dance (classical, folk, modern), music, poetry and singing. The youngest performer was 4 years old and the oldest was a grandmother!
Tarang!… raised a total of £1013.68.
Feedback received from the audience indicated the ability of this type of cultural event to bring the community together in sprit, in appreciation and in fund raising. To quote some of the attendees:
“Our family travelled from Milton Keynes for the event and it was well worth it.
Great venue for events like this, with seating allowing everyone a good view of the stage and the talented performers. The event was well organised with a good selection of food and beverages on offer.
Can’t wait for the next event”
“We really enjoyed being in the midst of all the talent and wonderful Indian culture. Well done to all of you organising this. It’s so good that even though you are in the UK you kids get to enjoy Indian traditions. I love the mixing of different age groups as well. Loved it all”
“What an amazing evening we all had!!! We thoroughly enjoyed it!!! Lovely food, music, dancing, etc!!! Thanks so much for letting us know about it, my girls have not stopped dancing since we arrived home”
The Lincs Indian Society has taken note and plan to make an annual event of the talent show. Details to follow in due course.
